  7. to federate, associate, co-operate or join with the Association of Consulting Engineers of Canada.

The CEM is, in turn, a Member-Organization of the Association of Canadian Engineering Companies, or ACEC, a national non-profit business organization founded in 1925 under Federal Charter by a small number of eminently qualified independent consulting engineers. Its 500 Member Firms, that engage in more than 150 major fields of specialization necessary to the well being of today's complex society, contribute in excess of $15.4 billion to the Canadian economy and employ more than 90,000 people. All CEM Member-Firms are also Member-Firms of ACEC.

The purpose of the ACEC is to assist in promoting satisfactory business relations between its Member Firms and their clients, to promote cordial relations among the various consulting engineering firms in Canada, and to foster the interchange of professional, management and business experience and information among them. When necessary, it acts to safeguard the interest of the consulting engineer, and to further the maintenance of high professional standards in the consulting engineering profession.

The objectives are being reached through the activities of the national body, and through the Association's Member-Organizations:

The ACEC co-operates actively with other organizations representing the engineering and architectural professions, the construction, transportation and other industries, and is in close liaison with government departments and agencies at the national level.
